Community of Practice as implementation strategy1395considerations such as incorporating NAF in instructions related to the CCA and integrating NAF into internal training programmes.DiscussionThis study examined whether participation of implementers in a Community of Practice (CoP) would go along with enhanced level of implementation of the e-tool NAF and enhanced awareness of considering clients%u2019 perspective on involuntary care. In comparison with implementation as usual, no differences were found in care staff outcomes. The implementers were positive about collaborating in a CoP to develop implementation plans and learned from sharing and reflecting on tailored implementation interventions. Furthermore, they appreciated the structured work routine facilitated by the ItFits toolkit and the recommendations for specifying implementation interventions (Proctor et al., 2013; Vis et al., 2023). The positive evaluations of implementers on collaborating in a CoP for designing implementation plans stood in contrast with the overall lack of difference that such participation appeared to make for care staff%u2019s evaluations of NAF implementation and their awareness of including clients%u2019 perspectives on involuntary care. A similar gap was mentioned by Kothari et al. (2015) with a CoP in which webinars were successfully developed and conducted as implementation intervention for improving dental care for elderly, but that did not show the intended impact on care practice. We assumed that a CoP would serve as an educational platform for organisations, emphasizing the significance of developing implementation plans (Bisschops et al., 2023; Voss et al., 2021). Qualitative analyses revealed that implementation planning in intellectual disability care was indeed an unexplored realm. For example, sharing scientific insights and taking time to clarify objectives proved valuable (Bindels et al., 2014). It helped participants to comprehend their organisational stage for implementing innovations and to outline necessary steps to initiate implementation. Furthermore, exchanging prior experiences with implementation in intellectual disability
