Overview of Themes and Subthemes.Theme Subtheme Example codesAcceptability Value and usefulness I am positive about using the app - it makes me aware of my emotionsI do not need the app - I can talk about my feelingsPractical feasibility I prefer notifications at set times, rather than at randomI did not enjoy using the app during work hoursAvailability Installation and registration I received help with installing the appThe app was easy to find in the app storeLanguage and text The questions were comprehensibleThere was too much textResponse scales I found it difficult to understand the response options (Likert scale)It was easy to give a grade to my current feelings (visual-analogue scale)Appropriateness Adapting the experience sampling design to the needs of usersI did not like getting the same questions every timeThe amount of questions should be adapted to the user’s needsAdapting the questionnaire response scales to the needs of usersThe use of emoticons would distract me from the questionnairePictograms or emoticons should be used for people with literacy problemsNote. The main themes were defined prior to analysis and were based on the Access to Care Framework.23AcceptabilityThe theme of acceptability describes the extent to which participants were satisfied with the application. Sub-themes were: value and usefulness, and practical feasibility.Value and usefulness. This sub-theme describes the general, positive or negative, value participants ascribed to using experience sampling, and the extent to which participants found it useful. Participants did not directly mention any differences in satisfaction between the two apps that they tested. Four participants were generally satisfied with using experience sampling.
