Appendices194AcknowledgementsPursuing a PhD can be a lonely process. With a non-typical PAP educational background and exploring a topic that is unconventional for the field (“you’re studying WHAT in controversies?”), the process can feel even lonelier. Fortunately, there were some precious people along the way who made it feel less solitary.I am sincerely grateful to my supervision team. Tamara, you are the passionate spirit behind the idea of studying visuals in controversies, and you turned this idea into reality. You opened a scholarly door and invited me in. It was not the only door you have opened; you also introduced me to your network and hosted me in your house – on both occasions, I felt warmly welcomed. I am profoundly grateful for your guidance, support, and encouragement. Thanks to your meticulousness and persistence, I became a quality (I hope) independent researcher. Karin, you are a vital human bridging link between the natural and social sciences. Your feeton-the-ground feedback invited me to apply a rigorous reflection on what I am doing. I am grateful for your unique perspective, your motivating approach, and intelligent comments. Huub, you are an expert in illuminating blind spots and pointing out unexplored terrains. Thank you for adding a non-Wageningen flavour to my PhD trajectory and for the constructive feedback and inspiring discussions. I am indebted to the PAP members for providing a fruitful and supportive environment and making me feel I am, after all, part of a bigger whole. I loved the group interactions, particularly the informal coffee/corridor talks and the mutual lunches. Some people within PAP deserve my special appreciation. Katrien, although you were not officially part of my supervision team, you played a key role in the progress of my project, and I sensed your full commitment to it. I deeply appreciate your critical (and often unexpected) questions and your pragmatic approach. Art, your door is almost always open, both literally and metaphorically. Thank you for the productive and pleasant collaboration on the nanofood paper. Dave, many thanks for your support during the final stages of my PhD project. It always gives a boost to see a group chairholder with a big smile. Maarit, your help with logistical matters is priceless! Combined with your warm and always-willingto-help approach, it is invaluable. I owe much to my present and past fellow PhDs, a wonderful group of individuals who offered me many beneficial pieces of advice and a safe space to vent. Among them, my roommates – the list goes back to Efrat.indd 194 19-09-2023 09:47
