One postoperative infection occurred in the control condition during the first postoperative week. The patient presented after 4 days with increasing swelling and pus formation at the surgical site. The abscess was drained with a subsequent 5-day oral course of 500 mg amoxicillin 3 times a day. No sensory disturbances of the inferior alveolar nerve were scored after surgical removal of the mandibular third molars.
