Curriculum Vitae
Erik Renkema (Groningen, 1972) completed secondary education in 1990 at ‘De Waezenburg’ in Leek. He studied at the Teacher Training Institute ‘Nijenborgh’ in Groningen from 1990-1994. Working as a primary school teacher, he also studied theology at the Northern University Leeuwarden (NHL) (1994-1998). After graduating, he worked as a pastor (kerkelijk werker) at the Protestant Church in Hoogezand-Sappemeer (1998-2001). After working as a primary school teacher in Velserbroek (2001-2005), he became teacher of Religious Education at Iselinge University in Doetinchem: a Teacher Training Institute for primary education. In 2008 he completed his master studies Religious Education at VU University in Amsterdam. Since 2008 he works at Windesheim University in Zwolle and Almere, teaching Religious Education at the Teacher Training Institute for secondary education (2008-2012), at the Teacher Training Institute for primary education (2009-present) and as assistant professor Religious Education and Diversity for the Research Group of Theology and Worldview (2017-present).
Since 2012 he conducted his PhD research at the Protestant Theological University Amsterdam, the Research Centre of Youth, Church and Culture (PThU) and Windesheim University.
Erik is married to Margriet Drent. Together with their daughters Berit (2007) and Silke (2009) they live in Amersfoort.
