Chapter 5124on improving quality of care by focusing on putting evidence into practice, including sharing knowledge between organisations, across disciplines, as well as disseminating knowledge to other staff. Quantitative studies tended to confirm enhanced utilization of evidence-based practice. The potential of a CoP as implementation strategy in long-term intellectual disability care still remains unclear, however. Ingredients that may contribute to the success of CoPs are a multidisciplinary composition, and having a facilitator who monitors structured member interactions including opportunities for reflection and joint problem-solving (Barbour et al., 2018; Bisschops et al., 2023; Gerritsen et al., 2021). Initiating a CoP with members from different backgrounds in intellectual disability care and a working routine which structures interactions and activities regarding designing implementation plans might therefore be a promising implementation strategy for ultimately enhancing the quality of care provided by care staff. The %u2018Integrated theory-based Framework for intervention tailoring strategies toolkit%u2019 (ItFits-toolkit) can serve as a structuring work routine (Vis et al., 2023). Developed based on the theoretical principles of Normalisation Process Theory (May et al., 2009), the ItFits-toolkit serves as a tool for implementers, aiming to assist in creating evidence-informed implementation plans with interventions tailored to specific organisational and local needs. Vis and colleagues found a small yet statistically significant effect of using the ItFits-toolkit on implementing internet-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (iCBT) compared to implementation-as-usual (IAU).In this paper, we use the term implementation strategy for the CoP. In the CoP, implementers designed their implementation plans consisting of three sequential and tailored implementation interventions. The primary aim of this study was to examine the impact of implementers%u2019 participation in a CoP on the implementation of the NAF in care teams providing long-term care to people with intellectual disabilities. We also tested the indirect effect on increased awareness of care staff of considering clients%u2019 perspectives when making involuntary care decisions. Implementation with a CoP was compared to the conventional implementation method without a CoP, referred to as IAU. The research questions were: 1 Did care staff from participating organisations in a CoP for implementing NAF show a stronger increase in implementation
