Attentional Biases to Facial Emotions572additionally observe general alterations in reaction times after the presentation of certain emotional stimuli (angry, sad) with higher autistic trait levels, and the bias to angry facial expressions seemed to depend on a combination of both autistic traits and social anxiety traits in our study. Taken together, the link between clinical traits and attention, as measured by reaction times in this study, appears to be highly complex. While the dot-probe task allows to tap into general attentional tendencies toward emotional expressions, more naturalistic scenarios might be of higher informative value for revealing biases in real-life attentional processing associated with clinical conditions and build a stronger basis for clinical support.
