Chapter 7190still having the flexibility to tailor interventions to the specific needs of their organisations. However, this imposed limits on organisations to choose the most suitable implementation intervention at the right moment. A strength of this study was the utilisation of the ItFits-toolkit work routine (Vis et al., 2023) in the CoP and the recommendations for specifying implementation interventions (Proctor et al., 2013), because this scaffolded the development of implementation plans. Future research might build upon these positive experiences with an in-depth analysis of the process of tailoring and executing implementation plans.A major limitation to the fifth study of this dissertation (Chapter 6) was the COVID-19 pandemic. The original randomised controlled stepped wedge design needed to be changed to a less robust quasi-experimental interrupted time-series design. Although both designs can offer valuable insights in evaluating interventions, quasi-experimental designs generally have lower internal validity than randomised clinical trials for drawing conclusions from comparisons between implementation and control groups. The uncertainty about whether recordings of involuntary care during the implementation of MDET were monitored closely by MDET experts was another major limitation to this study, because the data for the interrupted time-series analysis depended on these recordings. Future research into the MDET-method may address identifying care homes and circumstances where MDET offers most value in addition to the CCA. These studies may identify circumstances under which care homes may benefit most from implementing the MDET method. Furthermore, research into components and phases of MDET may shine light on which components are absolutely necessary to effectively reduce involuntary care and which components can be adapted to fit organisations%u2019 preferences. Implications for practice The findings presented in this dissertation are relevant to long-term care organisations for people with intellectual disabilities in general, and specifically for organisations that provide care, support and treatment to clients with challenging behaviour.
