153AcknowledgementsWhen I applied for the postgraduate training in Endodontology, the committee asked me how I felt about doing research. I answered honestly that I had far too little experience to know whether I would like doing research or not. That was the truth, but not the whole truth. At that time I thought that I would not like it but I recognized that it was a compulsory part of the postgraduate training. During my postgraduate training in Endodontology, when I was considering topics for the research project, my eyes were opened that research on education was an option. Once I initiated my research project on education in Endodontology, I started to like doing research, and I am grateful that I got the opportunity to expand this research project – my baby – to become a PhD thesis. This thesis is about education and professional development. The work we did expanded my perspective on the topic, while the process itself tested my skills. During the years of my doctoral training, I was challenged in several ways; it was resilience training. I learned a lot and I feel gratitude for the lessons I got. I would like to start with thanking my supervisor (promotor) and co-supervisor (copromotor), Corine Visscher and Rifat Özok respectively. Corine, I am so grateful that you accepted to be my supervisor. You let me, and supported me to, develop. Thank you for your critical and valuable feedback, and for being open to my opinions. It meant a lot to me. Rifat, your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you for all those times that you were there for me. I learned so much under your supervision; more than I could imagine beforehand. Then, I would like to thank Lise-Lotte Kirkevang and Micheal Væth, I consider them my bonus supervisors. Lise-Lotte not only opened the door for our collaboration, she also became a mentor to me. Lise-Lotte, I am so grateful for your great support and your understanding! From Michael I learned a lot regarding statistics, addressing data and presenting results, and he always replied so swiftly on my mails. Michael, your willingness to help is amazing, I am so grateful to you for all your help! Many many thanks to both of you! I would like to thank Manon Janssen, Peter Musaeus and Lona Ali for their contributions to parts of the research project. I would like to thank Hagay Shemesh and Marjoke Vervoorn for inspiring me to start this research project on education in Endodontology. It was them who made me realize that I could perform research on education in Endodontics, and they assured me that it would be appreciated if I did. I would like to thank Irene Aartman for hinting that this research project could become a doctoral thesis. I would like to thank Wilhelm Zerbst, Miguel Seruca Annemarie Baaij.indd 153 28-06-2023 12:26
