Lianna, the queen of figures, chocolates and cookies, you quickly helped converting that healthy fruit basket to what it always should have been: a PhD emergency kit. I wish you all the best in the UK! Magda, what a job they gave you at the start, go and replace Tijs in The Office (Koen had a hard time understanding). After baking that awesome heart-shaped cake you definitely deserved that platinum “The Office” membership, keep HG02.027 warm and good luck with the bugs! Jessica, welcome to the NESSC family! Only occasionally seen in the office of course, but the Bràulio will be remembered! Cheers and good luck in your project.
Let’s shortly move to Potsdam, as I did, to the Geomicrobiology department of the German Research Centre for Geosciences at the Telegrafenberg. Now, to all Dutchies, that’s a mountain. Going up there by bike was a serious challenge, and a great morning exercise. Susanne Liebner (aka Susi), Sizhong, Lars, Daniel, Patryk, Fabian, Dirk, Olivia et al., and a few floors down Matthias (aka Matze). I have learned so many things from the two exchange visits to your lab. Studying numerous episodes of Takeshi’s Castle, exchanging the highest quality carnaval songs, and initiating Friday afternoon beers. And of course, the fascinating research on Arctic ecosystems. I’m thrilled with the ongoing collaboration between our labs, of which parts can be seen in this thesis. A special thanks to Susi & Sizhong, we’ve shared and discussed tons of data, both good and bad challenging ideas, and always came out more knowledgeable. I’m grateful for all your input and time that made me learn a lot about the ecosystem that fascinated me from the start.
Dank
