9Appendices173Tom van Riet was born in Utrecht, the Netherlands in1986. Growing up alongside his sister, Evelien van Riet and parents Clemens and Jacqueline.Having completed secondary education at the Christelijk Gymnasium Utrecht in 2004, subsequently, Tom studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam. He graduated with honors in 2011. This was followed by a study dentistry at Radboud University, completing the program in 2015.He started his training in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) in 2014 and visited different OMFS-departments during his traineeship, amongst others New York Presbyterian Hospital (Columbia University), Queen Victoria Hospital (East Grinstead, UK), Prince Philip Dental Hospital (Honk Kong University) and Ninth People Hospital (Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China). Since 2019, he works as a consultant in oral maxillofacial surgery at AmsterdamUMC and as an acting oral and maxillofacial surgeon at the Amstelland hospital in Amstelveen.Tom has been a recipient of various grants to support his research, including NWO’s Open Mind Grant in 2018, AmsterdamUMC’s Innovation Impulse Grant in 2020, and the University of Amsterdam’s Grassroots Grant in 2023.He lives in Utrecht, together with his wife Claudia.
