Primary mental healthcare: care professionals’ perspectives1476Finally, interprofessional collaboration is more effective when there is adequate reimbursement, a team vision, shared goals, formal quality processes, and shared information systems. 28, 29ConclusionPractitioners perceive patients with both MID and MH problems as complex patients who present with multiple problems simultaneously, medical and non-medical, and continue to rely on them, even if the problems are nonmedical in nature. Consequently, practitioners often experience providing care and support to this patient group as burdensome. In order to provide effective primary MH care, it is important for practitioners and the other professionals involved to invest in a strong relationship with the patient, consider MID throughout the MH trajectory, and establish a stable and sustainable support network and coordinated collaborative care around the patient. Organising effective care and support may improve the quality of primary MH care, decrease the pressure on primary care practices, and, in some cases, prevent more intensive forms of MH care.Katrien Pouls sHL.indd 147 24-06-2024 16:26
