Prevalence of behavioural and emotional problems
What is already known on this topic
wChildren born moderately preterm are at increased risk for neonatal mortality and for short- and long-term health problems.
w It has been suggested that moderate preterms may also be at risk for separate types of behavioural and emotional problems.
w However, large prospective cohort studies are lacking.
What this study adds
wThe occurrence of behavioural and emotional problems was higher in
moderate preterm-born children than in term-born controls, overall and 3 for separate types of problems.
w In both groups the prevalence of behavioural and emotional problems was higher among boys, but being a moderate preterm affected girls more than boys.
