Geesje Henderika (Ageeth) Hofsteenge was born on the
1st of May 1975 in Emmen, the Netherlands. After
finishing secondary school at the Dissel in Emmen, she
studied Nutrition and Dietetics at the Hanze University of
Applied Sciences in Groningen from 1993-1997, and
received her Bachelor of Science degree. Subsequently
she studied Human Nutrition and Epidemiology at the
Wageningen University and Research Center (WUR,
Wageningen) from 1997-2000, and received her Master
of Science degree. In February 2000 she started as a
dietician at the division Nutrition and Dietetics of the VU
University Medical Center in Amsterdam at the Diabetic Center for adults and children. In 2006 she became dietician on the Paediatric department (Diabetes Center and Cystic Fibrosis Center Amsterdam) and started her PhD study the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary group treatment (Go4it) for outpatient obese adolescents. During the project she took methodological and statistical courses in the Postgraduate Epidemiology Programs of the EMGO Institute for Health and Care Research. She is besides dietician also tutor at the VUmc School of Medical Sciences and on occasion she teaches nutrition-related and nutritional assessment courses at the VU University Amsterdam and for FOCUS op VOEDING (www.focusopvoeding.nl).
