The role of residents is di erent for experienced students than for novice students, because experienced students started to regard residents as near-peers. This resulted in residents a ec ng all aspects of SRL, but not being decisive in the SRL of experienced students. Addi onally residents may also support coping with emo onal experiences and may create a feeling of social support. Experienced students were also more likely to share their personal goals with residents. This was because they realized the residents might be able to provide e ec ve strategies to reach certain goals, as residents were likely to have recently been in a similar situa on. In the interviews, students emphasized that it was important that residents provided
