Marc Simonet was born on March 2nd, 1977 in Chur, Switzerland. He studied Chemistry at the University of Applied Sciences, HTW Chur, Switzerland, for which he obtained in 2000 the degree of Bachelor in Science. Concomitantly, he worked at EMS- Chemie AG, Switzerland, initially as a lab assistant in the Materials Testing Department, then, till March 2002 as Head of Laboratory. From 2003 to 2007, he was working in the Polymer Technology Group, in the Department of Materials at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, with main research focus on developing and processing of bio-compatible polymers for tissue engineering applications. To further advance the electrospinning technique he worked as a Marie Curie Fellow (ENG-N
040565-AMTex) in the Materials Department at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) from 2007 to 2009. Concomitantly to latter he studied and obtained a MRes in Material Research from QMUL in 2008. From 2009 until 2013 he was a PhD candidate in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, TU/ Eindhoven, The Netherlands. There, the focus was on adapting and applying generic electrospinning techniques to bring the electrospinning technique and electrospun biomedical products closer to the market. All within the main goal to create an electrospun functional in-situ tissue engineered heart valve sca old. Since April 2013 he is working as an electrospinning application specialist for IME Technologies, The Netherlands.
