The condylar volume in patients with intracapsular fractures tended to be smaller than in those with extracapsular fractures, but the difference was not statistically significant (pre-treatment P = 0.842, post-treatment fractured P = 0.090, post-treatment non- fractured P = 0.707). In view of the small number of patients, the intracapsular and extracapsular fractures were considered as one group for all other analyses.

Analysis of CBCT scans
Pre- treatment and post-treatment scans
On the pre-treatment scans, the mean condylar volume on the non-fractured side was 1927 ± 658 mm3 (n=22) (Table 3). It was not possible to calculate the condylar volume on the fractured side because of the presence of multiple fragments.
