Rogier Pouwels was born on 1 August 1970 in Roermond (the Netherlands). During his childhood in Tungelroy he attended VWO at Bisschoppelijk College in Weert. He studied Biology at Utrecht University and graduated in 1994. After several short employments at Utrecht University, ATO-DLO, IBN-DLO and Pink Elephant he obtained his current position in 1998 at Wageningen Environmental Research (WENR, IBN-DLO and Alterra in former years). At WENR he has been
coordinating the development and application of biodiversity policy assessment tools for Dutch provinces, the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management, Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency. Since 2005 he manages the biodiversity research program at WENR conducted on behalf of PBL and has cooperated in many research projects to assess the impact of current and future policies on conservation targets, like ‘Redesigning the Dutch National Nature Network’ and the ‘European Nature Outlook’.
