Ingrid Pénzes was born on April 2, 1977 in Tegelen, the Netherlands. In 1999, she graduated cum laude from the bachelor art therapy program of Zuyd University of Applied Sciences.
In 1999, she started working as an art therapist for people with psychosocial problems. Later she worked in a specialized mental health centre for people with mild mental disabilities and severe mental disorders. Meanwhile, she studied Health Sciences at Maastricht University with specialization in Mental Health Sciences, of which she obtained her master degree in 2006.
Since 2003, she has worked as senior lecturer of the bachelor arts therapies program of Zuyd of which she became coordinator in 2017. In 2006, she joined the KenVaK research center for arts therapies and psychomotricity. Since 2011, she co-developed and lectured on the Master of Arts Therapies, which is a collaboration of five Dutch universities of applied sciences to provide further academic development for arts therapies.
Some of her main ambitions are to strengthen the connection between practice-based research, education and clinical practice, and to continue to improve arts therapies training and professional interventions in practice. This was also the main drive for her doctoral research.
This resulted in several achievements. In 2016, she contributed to obtain a ‘distinctive quality feature’ by the NVAO1 for Evidence Based Practice- education of the bachelor arts therapies program of Zuyd. In 2018, she collaborated with colleagues to accomplish a grant for a SURF2 innovation project to enhance the quality of arts therapies research education across five universities of applied sciences offering Bachelor arts therapies training programs.
She also contributed to art therapy education and practice by publications of articles and chapters in books, and by presentations in mental health institutions, other universities and professional associations.
