Curriculum Vitae
Tessa Martherus was born in Zoetermeer, the Netherlands, on the 16th of August 1995. She completed secondary school at the Alfrink College Zoetermeer in 2013. The same year, Tessa started her Medicine study at the University of Leiden in the same year and in June 2016, she obtained her bachelor degree in Medicine. As she was waiting to start medical internships of the master program, Tessa assisted in data collection for the retrospective study on tactile stimulation in the delivery room of Janneke Dekker. This eventually resulted in Tessa to start her PhD curriculum under supervision of Prof. dr. Arjan B te Pas (Division of Neonatology, Department of Pediatrics, Leiden University Medical Center, the Netherlands) and Prof.dr. Stuart B Hooper (Hudson Institute of Medical Research, Monash University, Australia) in February 2017. The focus of this PhD curriculum was physiological based (PB)-CPAP for preterm infants at birth. As animal studies were performed to examine the effect of CPAP levels at birth, Tessa was involved in rabbit and sheep studies at the Spring-8 synchrotron, Japan and Hudson Institute for Medical Research, Australia. The knowledge obtained by these studies were translated into delivery room care when a pilot study was performed on PB- CPAP in preterm infants at birth. The results were published and presented at international conferences. Since September 2021, Tessa is doing medical internships of the master program.
