For example, the lesson topic of the second lesson was the start of the Cold War (see Table 25), and the first assignment asked students to compare (in table form) the economic, political, and socio-cultural differences between the Soviet Union and the United States. The second question comprised a description of a country’s economy. The students had to use this description to explain whether the country is communist or capitalist. The third question asked students to describe how the United States and the Soviet Union became involved in the Second World War. All assignments were examples of regular Dutch history textbook exercises.
