characteristics at baseline and 1 month after hospital discharge are presented in Table 1. Patients were overall elderly and predominantly male, more than one- half had coronary artery disease, and about one-half had an ischemic etiology of HF. At admission because of acute HF, median NT-proBNP concentration was clearly elevated, and during admission the median decrease in NT-proBNP concentration was >60%. One month after hospital discharge, median NT-proBNP concentration was 2,538 pg/mL.
