In conclusion, we report high rates of complication in the mid- to long-term for pelvic reconstructions using the pedestal cup. Based on these results, we advise caution in the use of this implant for reconstruction of a periacetabular defect after resection of a pelvic tumor. Most published data on endoprosthetic reconstruction of periacetabular defects are derived from small studies with limited follow-up. This makes it di cult to compare di erent techniques. Nevertheless, promising results have been presented in more recent literature, suggesting that other prostheses may be more successful but these too require long-term surveillance to be con dent of the outcome.
