 About the author
Elske van den Berg was born in 1971 in Haarlem. She finished secondary school Johannes College in Den Helder in 1989. Elske went on to study psychology at VU University Amsterdam where she graduated in both Theoretical Psychology and Clinical Psychology.
After graduation, Elske started working as a psychologist at the Amsterdam mental health institute Valeriuskliniek and, after admission, began postgraduate training Clinical Psychology at RINO Noord-Holland. After a few years, Elske was able, much to her joy, to start working at the Eating Disorder Outpatient unit at Johan Weijer Instituut / Valeriuskliniek.
When, after a few years, a position became vacant at Landelijk Kennis-en Behandelcentrum Eetstoornissen Ursulakliniek in Leidschendam, Elske left Amsterdam to broaden her understanding of eating disorders.
In 2003, Elske finished her postgraduate training and obtained her licenses as GZ-psychologist, psychotherapist and as clinical psychologist. In the meantime, she had returned to Amsterdam to start working at the small Eating Disorder Program of Centrum voor Psychotherapie, which later would become Novarum. In 2010, Elske became head of Novarum and in 2013 she was appointed clinical director.
In 2018 Novarum was nominated for the VGZ Zinnige Zorg Award for their CBT-E treatment, in 2020 Novarum received TOPGGz quality mark.
