Costs of preparedness and response
We used an activity-based costing method. Total costs of preparedness and re- sponse were based on interviews with key professionals in EVD preparedness and response in the organisations involved. Time spent on EVD by a wide range of professionals within the organisations was investigated during these inter- views. Information on GP efforts was obtained through semistructured phone interviews with five GPs. A face-to-face interview with the coordinator of the association of ambulance care services (AZN) was followed by phone interviews with medical managers of the five regional ambulance services that transport- ed suspected EVD cases during the epidemic. Information on the operational deployment of personnel was retrieved from 3 peripheral hospitals, 5 academic
