Implementing paediatric vision screening in urban and rural areas in Cluj county, Romania
CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE LITERATURE
• Implementation of vision screening is much more difficult in rural areas than in urban areas in Romania.
• In the cities in Romania, kindergartens are attended by many children and have resident nurses, who see the children and their parents every day. Screening by the kindergarten nurses was therefore relatively easy.
• Lack of healthcare infrastructure and personnel, competing preventive healthcare priorities, travel distances, lack of access to children and lack of awareness among parents were major obstacles to screening in rural areas.
