                                About the Author
Chei Billedo (Manila, Philippines) obtained a
Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in
the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy
in the University of the Philippines (UP). In
2004, she received her Master of Arts degree in
Psychology (Social Psychology track) from the
same institution. During her Master’s study, she
worked as a research assistant in a joint project
of the Social Science and Philosophy Research
Foundation of UP and the Department of
Education of the Philippines that evaluated the
Revitalized Guidance Program in Philippine
public high schools. After this project, she
served as a research associate for the Filipino WellBeing Project of the Center for Development and Integrative Studies of UP. Eventually, she became a member of the faculty of the Department of Psychology, UP. As a teacher, she was awarded by the UP Diliman Interactive Learning Center as one of the Top 5 faculty members of the University in 2010. Also, in 2010, she initiated a radio show project (Psych O’clock Habit) which aired weekly on the university-based radio station, DZUP. She also continued to work on various research under different institutions such as the Council for the Welfare of Children, UP Center for Women’s Studies, UNICEF, UNFPA, and the Scalabrini Migration Center. In 2012, she went to the Netherlands to pursue PhD in Communication Science at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Between 2016 and 2019, she worked as a lecturer at the Department of Media and Communication of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. In September 2019, she started as a lecturer at the Department of Communication Science of the University of Amsterdam. Continuing her social and political advocacies in the Philippines while living in the Netherlands, Chei volunteers as a board member and academic adviser for the Filipino-LGBT Europe Foundation, as well as a member of the Filipinos Against Corruption and Tyranny-NL (FACT). Aside from research, teaching, and advocacy work, Chei enjoys scuba diving, mountain climbing, tour cycling, and dancing. She loves to collect children’s books and hopes to someday write a book on parental migration for Filipino children-left behind.
